You have to get your hands dirty to call yourself an artist. There is no room for playing it safe. The most important element is finding the mysticism of your craft. By mysticism, I mean the unknown source of profound danger; not reckless but awe inspiring. That crossing between realms. That journey into solitude. The process could be many things that have a tribal element to them. Going into a random bar to listen to some live music, renting a room at a shitty motel room to write or shot, pretending you’re someone else in a city you never been too, smoking a joint with an old hippie, hunting/stalking or staying in a cabin alone for a few weeks. Go outside your comfort zone and dive into the abyss.
There is to much complacency and unadulterated boredom in the world. Search for the myth in man.
